Julia Shrestha is a doctoral candidate at the Department of South Asian, Tibetan and Buddhist Studies, University of Vienna, and a researcher in the project ‘Documents on the History of Religion and Law of Pre-modern Nepal’ at the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. Her doctoral research is an ethnographic study of the Yakthung-Limbu community’s Yuma Mundhum traditions. It examines the oral ritual texts and narratives connected to the grandmother-deity Yuma, focusing on lived practices, ties to local landscapes, and contemporary dynamics. She has conducted fieldwork in eastern Nepal, in Panchthar and Taplejung districts.
